A member of Bangladesh Ansar was arrested from Chandgaon in the port city on Monday for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl.
The arrestee, Mobassher, 40, son of Habibur Rahman, was working at Chandgaon Police Station on deputation.
The Ansar man went to a residence on road 7 of Chandgaon Residential Area Monday morning and raped the daughter of rickshaw puller Matiur Rahman and fled the scene, said Officer-in-charge (OC) Ahsan-Ul-Islam of Chandgaon Police Station.
Matiur and his wife were not home when the incident happened, the OC said.
When the couple returned home and learned of the incident, they rushed their daughter to One Stop Crisis Center of Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
The couple also informed the police of the incident and Mobassher was arrested around 11:30pm, the OC said.
A case was filed with Chandgaon Police Station in this regard and the Bangladesh Ansar higher authorities were informed of the matter, he added.
