Bangladeshi films under spotlight at Swiss festival

Bangladeshi films are going to be screened in Switzerland, at an international film festival. The famed Fribourg International Film Festival (FIFF) 2012 will focus on Bangladesh, under a special section called 'New Territory', and will screen eight Bangladeshi films from March 24 to 31, 2012 in Switzerland.
The eight movies from Bangladesh selected by the FIFF are: “Aha!” directed by Enamul Karim Nirjhar; “Guerrilla” directed by Nasiruddin Yousuff; “Meherjaan” directed by Rubaiyat Hossain; “Monpura” directed by Giasuddin Selim; “Swopnodanay” directed by Golam Rabbany Biplob; “Moner Manush” directed by Goutam Ghose; “Matir Moina” and “Runway” directed by Tareque Masud, according to a press release. Filmmakers and producers from Bangladesh will also attend the film festival (For more info, visit: www.fiff.ch).
After the screening of “Runway” on March 25, a special discussion will be held in Fribourg on the general movie scene in Bangladesh and its evolution over the last four decades. Among others, the discussion will be attended by renowned Swiss filmmakers, film critics and two filmmakers from Bangladesh -- Enamul Karim Nirjhar and Golam Rabbany Biplob. Biplob is also a member of the international jury panel at this year's Fribourg Film Festival.
The 'Forum', a special discussion event at the film festival, will shed light on Bangladeshi movie industry. On March 26, a forum discussion will be held on the current state of filmmaking in Bangladesh and the competition Bangladeshi film industry faces vis-à-vis neighbouring countries.
Filmmakers and producers from Bangladesh -- Giasuddin Selim, Enamul Karim Nirjhar and Ebne Hassan Khan, among others -- will participate at the forum, which will be attended by film professionals, students and general audience from different countries.
As a side event to the Fribourg International Film Festival, the Foreign Ministries of Switzerland and Bangladesh are jointly organising a photo exhibition titled “Soulscapes” -- featuring works of Bangladeshi photographer GMB Akash, from March 26 to 31, along with an official reception in Fribourg. It may also be mentioned that this year, the Embassy of Switzerland is celebrating 40 years of the establishment of Swiss-Bangladesh bilateral relations.
