Robbers loot Khulna Public College

Armed robbers looted cash, scientific instruments and other valuables from Khulna Public College under Khalishpur Police Station early yesterday.
College sources said, a gang of 15 robbers entered the compound by scaling the boundary wall at around 3:00am. They beat up four security guards, confined them to the guardroom with their hands and legs tied up and looted cash and valuable objects, sources added.
According to Principal Selim Haider, the robbers took away Tk 54,000, five new microscopes, a laptop and many other valuables, breaking 54 steel and wooden almirahs in 18 rooms of the administrative building.
Police took the four security guards into custody for interrogation. They are Joynal Abedin, 52, Azam, 25, Joseph Gain, 55, and Sagor, 20.
The incident occurred at a time when the college authorities have completed all preparations to celebrate the silver jubilee of the institution, Principal Selim Haider said, adding the celebration begins today.
Meanwhile, Principal Selim Haider was recently assaulted allegedly by a group of Jubo League men in connection with the matters relating to admission of students to the college as per their list. He filed a general diary with Khalispur Police Station.
In Munshiganj, burglars took away cash and valuables worth about Tk 5 lakh from the house of a police constable at Bangmehar village in Tongibari upazila on Wednesday night, reports UNB.
Police said the thieves entered the house of police constable Nur Mohammad at around 10:00am by breaking open the door in absence of the family members.
