Abdullah Al Mamun: In retrospect

Special programme on Channel i


Today marks the 69th birth anniversary of renowned playwright, actor and filmmaker Abdullah Al Mamun. On the occasion, Channel i will broadcast a special programme, titled “Phirey Phirey Dekhi Tarey” at 6pm today. Director and actor Ataur Rahman; theatre personality Keramat Mawla and actress Afroza Banu will discuss the life and works of Mamun. Directed by Raju Alim, the show will feature Ramendu Majumder, president of ITI and Mamun's friend, as the host.
Besides the discussion, the programme will also include documentaries on Mamun's life. Mamun joined BTV as a producer in 1966 and retired in 1991 as a director. He also directed a number of acclaimed Bangla feature films like “Sareng Bou”, “Shokhi Tumi Kar”, “Dui Jibon” and “Bihanga”. More than 100 TV plays were produced by him. His timeless theatre productions include “Shubachan Nirbashaney”, “Ekhon Dushomoy”, “Shapath”, “Meherjaan Arekbar” and others. His classic TV plays are “Sangshaptak”, “Shirshabindu”, “Jibon Chhobi” and “Uttaradhikar”. Mamun was conferred the first National Television Award. He was also a recipient of Bangla Academy and Ekushey Padak. The artiste breathed his last on August 21, 2008.
