Students agitate for 'efficient' teachers

Several hundred students of Chittagong City Corporation (CCC)-run Premier University here yesterday formed a human chain to press home their 10-point demand including recruitment of efficient teachers.
They gave a 7-day ultimatum to the university authorities and submitted a memorandum to Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof. Anupam Sen to meet the demands.
The students staged the hour-long programme in front of the university main building at city's Probartak intersection at 11.00am.
The other demands include recruitment of full-fledged PhD-holder department chairmen, removal of corrupt teachers and employees, keeping campus free from all sorts of politics, easing session jam at BBA faculty, arrangement of convocation, end to admitting students beyond capacity of the university and fixing GPA 7 as minimum requirement for admission, enrichment and modernisation of the university library and providing scholarship along with discount of 25 to 75 percent for the poor students and 100 percent on special consideration.
Agitating student Rezaul Karim Rony said there is no full-fledged chairmen for English, law and BBA departments while inefficient teachers are taking classes.
During agitation VC Professor Anupam Sen, also an eminent social scientist, met the students and assured them of fulfilling the demands as early as possible.
