Nat'l Maritime Institute gets international recognition

National Maritime Institute, the lone state-owned institute providing maritime education, has recently received two certificates from international classification societies.
The certificates are ISO 9001:2008, which it received from DNV-GL, and Workshop Procedure Skill (WPS), received from Bureau Veritas.
Captain Faisal Azim, principal of the institute, told The Daily Star that such recognition from the international community would help trainees passing out of the institute in the competitive job market.
Representatives of the two organisations will formally handover the certificates to the institute at the passing out ceremony of the 13th batch Pre-Sea Ratings, a six-month long course to prepare trainees for life at sea, scheduled to be held tomorrow on the institute premises in Chittagong city.
Syed Monjurul Islam, secretary at the shipping ministry, is to receive the certificates as the chief guest at the ceremony.
Since the institute's establishment in 1952, this is the first time it received such certificates.
