While the whole nation is overwhelmed with pride at our 50 years of independence, it is hard to believe that we have not yet identified and recognised many Bangladeshi women who sacrificed so much for us. Scattered across the nation, there are plenty of unrecognised Birangonas who still lament the scars of 1971 at the hands of the Pakistani monsters.  

It's a pity that these women remain neglected, at times even by their own, and survive on insufficient means. We can never invalidate the contributions of the hundreds of thousands of Birangona for our victory. The government should recognise all such valiant women and provide them the means to survive with respect and honour.
