Ducsu inactive for 27 years!

The Daily Star published a front-page story titled “No Ducsu polls in 27 years” yesterday. It is really unfortunate that Dhaka University authorities have failed to arrange the elections despite the instruction of the High Court. What's ironic is that the university still collects fees from each student for the student council.

Once a prestigious student organisation, Ducsu produced a number of high-profile national leaders. Several important political movements such as the Language Movement and Six-Point Movement—which are inextricably linked to the history of Bangladesh—were contributed to by Ducsu leaders.

The DU authorities should take effective steps to hold Ducsu elections which would positively contribute to the political landscape of the country.
