Kid dies in Moghbazar fire

A child was burnt to death as a devastating fire swept through a rickshaw garage and later engulfed adjacent shanties in Moghbazar area of the capital this morning.
The identity of the victim could not be known immediately.
The fire broke out at a rickshaw garage in Madhubagh area of Moghbazar around 8:15am, Mashiur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ramna Police Station, told The Daily Star.
The blaze which later engulfed the adjacent shanties was brought under control around 9:15am, the OC added.
The fire fighters later recovered the charred body of a child from the wreckage of the shanties, the police official said.
Nearly one hundred shanties were reduced to ashes in the fire, he added.
Fifteen units from different Fire Service and Civil Defence stations including its headquarters had to work relentlessly to douse the flames.
