Honouring icons of Bangladeshi cinema

Marking the Golden Jubilee of Bangladesh Chalachchitra Sangsad Andolon (BCSA), a yearlong golden jubilee festival wrapped up through honouring iconic film personalities of Bangladesh in a programme held on April 18 at National Art Gallery auditorium of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA). BCSA in association with BSA organised the yearlong programmes that featured film screening, workshops, seminars, roundtables, rallies, discussions and conferring of the Golden Jubilee Awards and Golden Jubilee Memorial Honours on 35 noted film personalities.
Eminent filmmaker, critic, journalist, teacher and one of the pioneer persons of BCSA Alamgir Kabir (posthumously); one of the forerunners of BCSA Mahbub Jamil and veteran film personally and a pioneer of BCSA Muhammad Khasru received Golden Jubilee Awards while 31 eminent personalities including Kabir Chowdhury (posthumous), Mosharaf Hossain Chowdhury (posthumous), Laila Samad (posthumous), Waheedul Haq (posthumous), Syed Hasan Imam, Syed Salahuddin Zaki, Sheikh Niamat Ali, Masihuddin Shaker, Badal Rahman (posthumous), Tareque Masud (posthumous), Tanvir Mokammel, Morshedul Islam and Manzarehasin Murad received Golden Jubilee Memorial Honours at the concluding programme. Film historian, researcher, writer and journalist Anupam Hayat also received special honour at the event.
Eminent artist and former Director General of Bangladesh Film Development Corporation Mustafa Monwar, gracing the occasion as chief guest, handed over awards to the recipients. Family members of the posthumous recipients received awards from the chief guest. Syed Hasan Imam and Bidhan Barua of Chittagong Chalachchitra Sangsad Kendra were present as special guests while director of the Department of Theatre and Film of BSA Sara Ara Mahmud was present as guest of honour at the event.
Member-Secretary of Golden Jubilee Celebration Council, Morshedul Islam delivered welcome address while President of National Advisory Council of BCSA presided over the programme.
Morshedul Islam elaborated on the details of the yearlong programme at the event. He also mentioned that those who have immensely contributed to Bangladeshi films up to 1980s have been considered for awards and honours. In his speech, Bidhan Barua spoke on the struggles, contributions and achievements of Chittagong Chalachchitra Sangsad.
“We carried on movements in a difficult atmosphere during the Pakistani era. To cater to sophisticated spectators was our main agenda in that period and it remains unchanged today,” said Sayed Hasan Imam.
A book titled “Subarna Jayonti Smarok Grontho: Bangladesh-er Chalachchitra Sangsad Andoloner Itibritto (1963-2013)” was launched at the event. Sajedul Awal edited the book.
Anupam Hayat was the convener of Golden Jubilee Award and Golden Jubilee Memorial Honour jury committee. Member Secretary of the committee Kazi Zahidul Islam also spoke at the event.
