Amar Ekushey: Remembering the martyrs of 1952

She held her grandson's hand tight. Teardrops in her eyes, as she walked up, barefooted, and holding a red rose in another hand. The elderly woman, in her mid-eighties, her vision impaired, would come to the Central Shaheed Minar every year to pay homage to the language heroes who laid down their lives on February 21, 1952. Like her, people from all walks of life paid tributes to the language martyrs yesterday.
