A woman was strangled to death on Friday allegedly by her husband for dowry at Pakshey village in Ishwardi upazila.

The victim was Shyamoly Khatun, 20, wife of Shahidul Islam Bachchu.

Bachchu and his family members often tortured Shyamoly for dowry, said police and family members.

Shyamoly was sent to her father's house for bringing Tk 50,000 as dowry but she returned with empty hand on Friday, said Azim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Ishwardi Police Station.

After the incident, she was strangled at her in-laws' house at night, said the OC.

Bachchu and his family members went into hiding soon after the incident, said the police official.
