Two minor girls drowned in a pond in Mirzapur upazila yesterday. The deceased are Morium Akter, 10,  daughter of Yasin Mia, and her cousin Fatema Akter, 7, daughter of Jamal Mia, of Baniara village.

Family members said the two drowned while they were taking bath in a pond adjacent to their houses yesterday noon.

Local people rescued the duo and sent them to Kumudini Hospital where the doctors declared them dead.
