A teenage boy allegedly committed suicide for not having a mobile phone set at Nikhai village in Sarishabari upazila on Saturday night.

Deceased Sabbir Ahmed, 16, son of late Abdus Samad of the village appeared in this year's SSC examinations.

Sabbir asked for a mobile phone set from his mother. As she refused to buy it, he took his life by hanging himself from a tree at their courtyard, Sub-inspector of Sarishabari Police Station Matiur Rahman said quoting the deceased's mother Sahera Khatun.

The body was sent to Jamalpur General Hospital morgue, said the SI.
