A man was stabbed to death allegedly by his son following an altercation over a cigarette at Hasanpur village in Sadar upazila on Sunday night.

The victim was Abdul Gafur, 63, father of Aftab Mia, 35.

Police and locals said there was a longstanding conflict between Gafur and Aftab over different issues.

Police said Aftab wanted a cigarette from his father, but his father refused to give it. Aftab got angry and stabbed his father indiscriminately, leaving him critically injured.

Gafur was taken to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital, where he died, said Moulvibazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Sohel Ahmed.
