The body of another victim was recovered from the rubble of a building that toppled into Kaptai Lake in Reserve Bazar area of Rangamati yesterday, raising the death toll to five.

Rescue workers of navy recovered the body of Sajil, 8, around 7:00am today, said Golam Mustafa, assistant director of local Fire Service and Civil Defence.  

Deputy Commissioner of Rangamati Manzurul Mannan informed journalists that each of the four affected families was given Tk 20,000 cash and 20 kilogrammes of rice each.

Several others went missing as the two-storied building near Rangamati Government Women's College overturned around 6:00pm yesterday.

The building might have given way after the water level in the lake rose due to incessant rain and partially inundated it, Golam Mustafa told media soon after the incident.

A total of four families lived in the tin-roofed building as tenants, said locals.

Fire service with the help of the army, navy, police and locals conducted the rescue operation.
