Rail service disrupted for fire in Tongi

Rail communication from Dhaka to Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Chittagong was disrupted after scrap materials caught fire on rail tracks in Gazipur’s Tongi this morning.
Train communication remained snapped for several hours as some of the railway slippers were burnt in the fire, our Gazipur correspondent reports quoting officials.
Several sacks of garment scrap kept under Tongi Rail Bridge caught fire around 6:00am, damaging several wooden slippers, said Atikul Rahman, station officer of Tongi fire service. The origin of fire was suspected to have been a cigarette butt.
On information, two units of firefighters rushed to the spot and tamed the fire within half an hour.
Railway service on the up line was suspended for about two hours, Sayedur Rahman, assistant director of Bangladesh Railway, told The Daily Star. The down line remained operational.
