Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury

Eminent social scientist Prof Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Chittagong University (CU).

President Abdul Hamid, also the Chancellor of CU, appointed Prof Iftekhar on Tuesday for tenure of four years, said Md Forhad, the deputy registrar of the university.

Prof Iftekhar, who has been serving as a pro-VC of CU from May 30, 2013, will take charge as the VC on June 16, our Chittagong correspondent reports quoting the registrar.

He joined in Sociology department of the university in 1982. He completed his Ph.D from University of Tsukuba in Japan in 1988.

The former president of Chittagong University Teachers' Association earlier served as visiting professor of different international universities including University of Tsukuba, Osaka University and University of Glasgow.
