A woman took her life by hanging herself while her daughter attempted to commit suicide at Joyra village in Sadar upazila on Friday.

The deceased was Nabiran Begum, 55, wife of Hazrat Ali of the village. Her daughter Rima Akhter, 26, is now undergoing treatment at Manikganj Sadar Hospital.

Police and family sources said Rima was divorced in 2013 three years after her marriage and since then she has been living in her father's house. Meanwhile, her six-year-old daughter Anika lived with her father Mosharraf Hossain at Dhamrai in Dhaka.

On Friday morning, Nabiran and Rima locked in an altercation when the latter wanted to visit Dhamrai to see her daughter.

At one stage, Nabiran killed herself while Rima tried to commit suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling.
