Gobindaganj police detained one of the alleged rapists of a fraud gang yesterday in connection with a case for gang raping a woman and her teenage daughter near the bank of the Karotoa river early Saturday.

The arrestee is Sada Mia, 25, an alleged member of a fraud gang called 'Jiner Badsha' (king of genie).

Quoting the case statement, police said members of a fraud gang called 'Jiner Badsha' developed a verbal communication over mobile phone with an innocent housewife of Jamalpur Sadar upazila about two months ago.

The gang also realised Tk 1.2 lakh from the victim in different phases in the name of spiritual healing and assurance of getting secret wealth, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gobindaganj Police Station Mojibur Rahman said.

Last week, the gang members phoned the woman and asked her to come to Gobindaganj and receive the secret wealth, the OC said, adding that being hypnotized by their religious gossip in soft tone she and her daughter reached Gobindaganj on Friday night.

The same night, members of the fraud gang picked the duo on motorcycles and took them to a remote area near the Karotoa river.

Later, five to six of the culprits violated the woman and her daughter and fled the scene, leaving the victims unconscious, the OC said.

The following morning, villagers rescued the two and admitted them to Gobindaganj Upazila Health Complex.
