A memorandum was submitted to the deputy commissioner (DC) of Jessore yesterday, requesting him to prevent felling of trees on Jessore-Benapole Highway, known as Jessore Road.

Committee to Develop Jessore Road and Protect Trees handed it over after a rally.

The committee said the government should develop the road without felling the old trees. There are 40 feet to 60 feet of land of the Roads and Highways Department and the road can be developed by using that area, they added.

Convener Azizul Haque Moni and Workers Party leader Iqbal Kabir Jahid were present.

DC Abdul Awal said development of the road is possible without felling the trees.
