A man was killed and 15 others were injured yesterday over land dispute at Modhukhali village in Tungipara upazila of Gopalganj.

The deceased was Abul Kalam Montu Sheikh, 60, a farmer.

Locals said there was a longstanding conflict between Montu and Babul Sheikh over 50 decimals of land beside Montu's house.

Montu asked Babul not to throw water towards his house. As a sequel, Montu's and Babul's men locked in a clash, which left 16 people of both sides injured.

Critically injured Montu was taken to Tungipara Upazila Health Complex from where he was shifted to Gopalganj General Hospital. The doctor, however, referred him to Khulna Medical College Hospital where he died. Police sent the body to Gopalganj General Hospital for autopsy.

“I shall file a case against those who beat us and killed my father,” said victim's son Milton Sheikh.
