A man was killed and at least 15 others were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers in Sreepur upazila of Magura yesterday over establishing supremacy in their locality.

The deceased, Anisur Rahman, 40, was son of Harun Mia of Kajoli Mortuzapur village.

The injured took treatment at different private clinics and hospitals.

Locals said there had been a rivalry between two village leaders Nurul Mollah and Paban Hossain for nearly five years.

As a sequel of the conflict, supporters of both the groups, equipped with fishing spears, iron rods and billhooks, attacked each other, leaving the 16 people, including the three siblings, injured.

Anis and his brothers were rushed to Magura Sadar Hospital where the doctors declared him dead.

Slain Anis was an accused in the case for severing a leg of one William Hossain during an earlier clash on March 7, Officer-in-Charge of Sreepur Police Station Mahbubur Rahman said.
