A Habiganj court yesterday placed Babul Mia, the main accused in Beauty rape and murder case, on a five-day remand.

Habiganj Senior Judicial Magistrate Asma Begum gave the order when police produced Babul before the court seeking 10-day remand for interrogation, said Shayestaganj Police Station OC Mohammad Manikul Islam, also investigation officer of the case.

According to the prosecution, Babul Miah and his accomplices of Brahmondora village abducted Beauty, 16, daughter of Sayed Ali, a day labourer of the village, on January 21. Babul then raped Beauty numerous times holding her hostage at unknown places for over a month.

After Babul let Beauty go, her father filed an abduction and rape case against Babul and his mother, a member of Brahmandora Union Parishad, with the district's Woman and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal on March 1.

Amid threat, Beauty's family sent her to her grandfather's house at Gunipur village in Lakhai upazila.

On the night of March 16, Babul reportedly abducted Beauty again from there and killed her after rape.

On March 18, Sayed Ali filed a murder case accusing Babul and several unknown others with Shayestaganj Police Station and Babul was arrested on March 31.
