Keep children away from militancy: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina today urged all, including guardians, to remain alert so that their children do not go to the wrong path of terrorism and militancy.
"It's unfortunate that terrorism and militancy are spreading in the country in many ways and forms after 1975 (following the killing of Bangabandhu). But, the whole nation is today united in curbing terrorism and militancy," she said.
The prime minister said this after formally inaugurating the 'Shimanto Bank' at a programme at Fazlur Rahman Khondoker Auditorium at BGB Headquarters in the capital.
Shimanto Bank Managing Director and CEO Mokhlesur Rahman made an audio-visual presentation on the bank.
Sheikh Hasina said the guardians have the responsibility to know properly about the whereabouts of their children as to where they go, with whom they spend time or whether they are sincerely continuing their academic activities or not.
"It's my fervent call to each and every guardian to remain alert so that their children don't get engaged in terrorism and militancy.....you'll have to get closer to your children, hear about their problems, and sincerely continue efforts so that your children could become good human beings completing their studies," she added.
The prime minister also called upon all to provide information to law enforcement agencies if there is any information about terrorists and militants in a bid to keep the country free from the clutches of terrorism and militancy and thus continue the country's march towards development.
"We'll have to remain alert so that the future generation doesn't follow the wrong path, as because Islam is a religion of peace and Islam never supports killings. Killing is not the path of Islam as it is the path of peace. Those who are committing such misdeeds are causing severe harm to Islam," Hasina added.
The prime minister also said these elements are also maligning the sacred religion Islam by making it questionable with their activities.
She also hoped that the wrongdoers would come to the right path while others will perform their duties properly from their respective positions to curb these menaces.
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Senior Secretary of the Ministry Dr Mozammel Haque Khan, Bank and Financial Institution Division Secretary Mohammad Yunusur Rahman also spoke on the occasion. Shimanto Bank Chairman and BGB Director General Major General Aziz Ahmed delivered the address of welcome.
