Panchagarh district administration decided to arrange a month-long iftar mela (fair) during Ramadan with an aim to ensure safe, hygienic and non-adulterated food items among people who observe fasting.

The fair will be held at Panchagarh Government Auditorium premises in the town.

The decision came in a meeting with the leaders of Panchagarh Hotel and Restaurant Owners' Association at the conference room of the deputy commissioner's office on Wednesday. DC Amal Krishna Mandal presided over the programme.

In the meeting, it was decided that every day during the month of Ramadan, iftar items will be sold from 3:00pm at the premises for ensuring safe food.

It will also raise awareness among the people against food adulteration and importance of hygienic food for good health.

Different restaurant and bakery owners will set up stalls from the first day of Ramadan.

Besides, the meeting also took the decision not to allow roadside makeshift stalls in the town.
