The Supreme Court today upheld a High Court verdict that acquitted former BNP lawmaker Mosaddek Ali Falu in a relief tin scam case.

A four-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha dismissed an appeal filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) challenging the HC verdict.

ACC lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan told The Daily Star that the apex court dismissed the commission’s appeal as it was filed more than 800 days after the HC delivered the verdict.  

A special court in Dhaka, on June 2, 2008, sentenced Falu to five years' rigorous imprisonment in a relief tin scam case filed by the Ashulia police during the period of the caretaker government in 2007.

Later on, the HC following an appeal filed by Falu acquitted him of the case, the advocate added.
