The Customs and Excise officials seized nine gold bars worth about Tk 50 lakh from Darshana immigration check post in Chuadanga and arrested a man on charge of attempting to smuggle the valuable item to India on Friday.

Chabi Rani Dutt, Customs and Excise officer of Benapole, said they caught a man named Abdul Motaleb, 52, of Anispur village in Tongi upazila of Gazipur when he was passing the border check post to go to India.

Officials checked the shoes of Motaleb and found nine pieces of gold bars stuck into the shoes.

Chuadanga Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court sent the accused to jail yesterday.
