Four alleged frauds were arrested in Panchagarh Sadar upazila on Tuesday for collecting money from the poor.

The arrestees are Fuad Al Islam, 35, son of Abdul Karim of Rasulpur village, Halima Begum,25, wife of Nasir Uddin of Lakcha village in Satkhira Sadar, Motiar Rahman,60, son of Sapijuddin of Kantamoni village and Abdul Bari,28, son of Abdul Khalek of Khasmahal village in Panchagarh Sadar.

Police and locals said the four collected Tk 2,000 to Tk 5,000 from the distressed families of different villages in Satmera union of Panchagarh Sadar upazila promising to build houses for them under Asrayan Project.

Seeing their suspicious activities, local people caught them while they were collecting money from people, said Rabiul Islam, officer-in-charge of Panchagarh Police Station.

On information, police went to the spot and arrested the four, said Afsar Ali, member of Satmera Union Parishad.

A case was filed in connection with the incident, said the police official.
