Fortune smiles on Chuadanga growers

Early cauliflower cultivation has brought smiles to Chuadanga growers this year as they are making good profit selling their produce at a high price after they suffered a loss last year due to low price.
The vegetable is being sold at Tk 1,000 to Tk 1,200 per maund, while the price was Tk 300 to Tk 400 last year.
Farmer Anwar Hossain of Gaidghat under Chuadanga's Sadar upazila said he cultivated cauliflower on 20 bighas of land this year, spending Tk 15,000 per bigha.
He earned Tk 5.50 lakh selling the produce of 14 bighas and is expecting to earn more than Tk 2 lakh from the rest of the crop.
Israfil Hossain of Belgachi said he cultivated cauliflower on his five bighas of land. He told this correspondent that he had incurred a huge loss last year, but this year the vegetable has brought him a fortune.
According to the Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE), farmers planted early cauliflower on 1,371 hectares of land in the district this year. Good yield of cauliflower was due to favourable weather, DAD added.
Vegetable trader Alauddin Ahmed Sagar of Munshiganj said he bought around 32 maunds of cauliflower that would be sold in Dhaka where there is a good demand.
DAE Deputy Director in Chuadanga Nirmol Kumar Dey said early farming of cauliflower brought good profit for the farmers.
