A freedom fighter (FF) was assaulted allegedly by his neighbours at Mohisharan village in Gouripur upazila on Sunday.

FF Abdul Mazid, 66, of the village is now undergoing treatment at the upazila health complex.

The victim's elder son Mazharul Islam said his father along with some other villagers, their neighbour Moslem Uddin, realised Tk 23,100 as contribution from local people for new electricity connection some two years ago.

As Tk 20,000 was needed for the connection, the rest of money was deposited to Moslem, a former member of Achintapur union parishad, last year.

As the village people pressed Mazid to return the dues, Mazid talked with Moslem on several occasions but the later did not return the money, alleged Mazharul.

When Mazid went to ask for the money on Sunday morning, Moslem and his two brothers -- Abdul Mannan and Abdul Wahab – assaulted him.

Mazid lodged a complaint with Gouripur Police Station, accusing the three siblings.

Moslem could not be reached as his mobile phone was found switched off.
