Police arrested a fake deputy inspector general (DIG) of police from Champadaha village in Sadar upazila yesterday.

The arrestee is Ataur Rahman alias Atik, 43, son of Abdur Rahman of the village.

Police said Atik had been collecting tolls from different organisations and persons introducing himself either as DIG or superintendent of police.

He often cheated people by promising employment in the police department in exchange of money.

Atik is an accused in several cases, including fraudulence and toll collection, said Khan Md Shaharier, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
