Elderly man sent to jail for raping adopted girl
A 62-year-old man, accused of violating a 13-year-old girl for over a year, was sent to jail here on Monday.
The Court of Senior Judicial Magistrate Nazmul Haque gave the order after the accused was produced before it, said Court Inspector Abdul Kader.
Ayub Ali, son of late Abdul Hai of Sarmara village in Bakshiganj upazila, had been living for years in a rented house at Bania Bazar in Jamalpur municipality along with the girl, said Shoaib Khan, sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station, also investigation officer (IO) of the case.
Ayub took the girl, when she was three, from a poor family of Belka village in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha, promising to bring her up as his daughter, he said.
At around 9:00pm on Sunday, the girl went out of the house and sought locals' help for protection from random sexual harassment by Ayub.
The court recorded statement of Dr Fakria Alam, gynaecologist of Jamalpur General Hospital, on Monday.
The court yesterday gave an order for the girl's stay at a safe home in Faridpur town, said Court Inspector Kader.
Ayub admitted to police that he had been violating the girl for over a year and he wanted to marry her, said the IO.
