A drug addict youth killed his mother at Randia village in Bhaluka upazila on Saturday night.

The victim was Ambia Khatun, 50, wife of Habibur Rahman of the village.

Quoting local people, Bhaluka Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Mamun-ur-Rashid said Emdadul Haque, 26, used to quarrel with his parents to get money for buying drugs. Sometimes he even beat up his mother, the OC said.

There was an altercation between Emdad and his mother when he pressed her for money on Saturday. At one stage, Emdad stabbed his mother to death, the OC said, adding that he also attempted to attack his father.

Hearing screams, locals caught Emdad while he was fleeing the scene. Later, he was handed over to police.

Police sent the body to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
