Driver stops train for smoking!
Sky is the limit but there is no limit to stupidity. The driver stopped a train just for 'buying cigarettes' at Malanchi rail gate in Natore's Bagatipara upazila.
Gateman Mokabbar Hossain, who was on duty at the rail gate during the incident, saw an oil-carrying train suddenly stopping there around 10:30am on Monday.
The driver of the train then came down and bought some cigarettes from a grocery store. It created a traffic jam as the train was stopped there for three minutes.
Rakib Uddin, 44, a witness to the incident, said he never saw that kind of audacity from a train driver in his life.
Grocer Bakul Hossain said the train driver bought 10 cigarettes from his shop and left the area.
Ashok Kumar, assistant station master of Natore rail station, said the driver cannot stop a train without permission from the authority. He did it illegally.
Quoting the driver, Divisional Railway Manager Asim Kumar Talukder said the train was slowing down as the vacuum of the train was not working properly.
The driver confesses that he bought cigarettes from the Malanchi rail gate and also repaired the vacuum at the same time, said the DRM.
Action will be taken if any irregularities are found, said Asim.
