Dalits demand law to end discrimination

Hundreds of people from Dalit and excluded communities yesterday formed separate human chains in Chapainawabganj and Gaibandha demanding immediate end to all kinds of discriminations against them.

Ethnic community people formed a human chain in Chapainawabganj town to press home their eight-point demand, including formulation of a law to eliminate racial discrimination and protect their human rights.

They placed the demand at the rally organised by Bangladesh Dalit and Excluded Rights Movement (BDERM) in front of the deputy commissioner's office marking International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

The speakers called for immediate end to all kinds of discriminations against them to ensure their civic rights.

They also urged the government to take proper steps to prevent students of the Dalit community from dropping out of school.

They demanded quota for Dalit students in government service and admission in all public universities and urged the government to formulate a national policy in this regard.

BDERM President Brahmmanath Thakur, Chapainawabganj unit, its General Secretary Deb Sagor Thakur and Organising Secretary Poshupoti Robidas, spoke among others.

Meanwhile, hundreds of ethnic community people formed a human chain in DB Road area in Gaibandha municipality, demanding formulation of a law to eliminate racial discrimination.

Harijan Oikya Parishad, Bangladesh Robidas Forum, Jano Udyog and CPB jointly organised the rally, marking International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
