A mobile court fined a bird poacher and destroyed a huge quantity of nets and equipment used for trapping birds in Polobhangha water body in Hakaluki Haor area of Barlekha upazila under the district yesterday.

The court led by Barlekha Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md Sharif Uddin imposed a fine of Tk 4,000 to Mokhlish Ali, 45, a resident of Islampur village under Barlekha upazila, for the illegal netting of birds, said Ashraful Haque, fisheries officer of Barlekha upazila.

Such drives will continue to punish those who are involved in illegal netting of birds in Hakaluki Haor area, said Sohel Ahmed, upazila nirbahi officer of Barlekha.
