5 JnU students held for proxy

Five students of Jagannath University and two others from Nilphamari Government College were arrested yesterday as they appeared in the written examination for the post of police constable as fake candidates.

The arrestees are Sheikh Fazlul Huq Roman, 22, Younus Ali, 20, Shamim Reza, 22, Yasin Mollah, 24, and Tabayed Rahman, 23, students of Jagannath University, Ekramul Huq, 23, and Ripon Hossain, 22, of Nilphamari Government College. They hail from different districts.

Officer-in-Charge of Nilphamari Sadar Police Station Babul Akhter said the seven appeared in the examinations as fake examinees at Nilphamari Police Lines centre on behalf of listed candidates.

At the time of verifying relevant documents, police found them as fake examinees and arrested them, said the OC.

During primary interrogation, they admitted that they contacted the real candidates for Tk 30 to 40 thousand for appearing in the exams on their behalf, said the police official.

A total of 389 candidates sat in the written examinations in district police lines centre for 120 posts. They were primarily selected to appear in written test after sorting from two thousand intending candidates, he said.
