Police yesterday detained a youth for allegedly assaulting and injuring a police official at Askar Dighir par area in the port city.

The youth was taken to Kotwali Police Station, while the injured Sub-Inspector (SI) Kamruzzaman of Pahartali Police Station was admitted to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH), said Inspector Jahirul Islam, In-Charge (IC) of CMCH Police Outpost.

A scuffle ensued between the plain-cloth police official and the youth after the policeman's motorbike hit a female in the city, witnesses said. 

Inspector Jahir said the youth started to beat the SI with his umbrella and injured. On information police rushed to the spot and took the youth to police station.
