Two students of Government Science College today drowned in the Shitalakkhya River in Demra area of Dhaka.

Deceased Tanjimul, 18, of Bamoi area, and Mizanur Rahman, 18, of Shanir Akhra area in Demra, were the first year students of the college, said Kawsar Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Demra Police Station.

Tanjimul and Mizanur along with their four other friends went to Demra Ghat to take bath in the river, Mahmudul Haque of Fire Service and Civil Defence, told The Daily Star.

Three of them, including the duo, went missing when they were swimming in the river around 1:00pm. Immediately after their missing, some fishermen rescued one of them, he said.

Later on information, firefighters rescued Tanjimul and Mizanur in unconscious state and rushed to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital where doctors declared them dead, the fire service official said.
