Two expelled BCL leaders charged with attempted murder
Police have pressed charges against the two expelled Bangladesh Chhatra League leaders, who were seen in different photographs published in the Bangla dailies brandishing firearms during a hawker eviction drive in the capital's Gulistan on October 27, 2016, in a ransacking case.
The accused are: former general secretary of BCL Dhaka city (south) Md Sabbir Hossain and former general secretary of BCL Wari thana unit Md Ashiqur Rahman who were on April 15 also charged with attempted murder on the same day.
But, police failed to recover the firearms, which were used during the clash between Dhaka South City Corporation staffs and hawkers, as they did not get permission for taking the duo under remand for grilling, read the charge sheet submitted to a Dhaka court on Sunday.
Two accomplices of the BCL leaders, Md Sabbir Ahmed Rassel and Md Shamim Howlader, were also charged in the ransacking case. Ten people, including two corporation employees, were injured in the clash.
