Three Nordic embassies join hands with Bengal Art Lounge

Start 4-day exhibition on women empowerment

Three Nordic embassies in Dhaka -- Denmark, Norway and Sweden -- have joined hands with the Bengal Art Lounge to host a four-day "Wings of Hope" exhibition, celebrating women's empowerment.

Inaugurated by Sir Fazle Hassan Abed and Sultana Kamal, the exhibition began yesterday and will end on April 24, the third anniversary of the Rana Plaza disaster, says a press release.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has extended her support to the project and the exhibition. She has taken an interest in their rehabilitation and bought one of the sculptures created by them.

The embassies in partnership with Meena e.V, an NGO working with the survivors, had conducted an art workshop on March 7, where the survivors had created metal sculptures representing their aspirations and desires with guidance from the artists of SHaKo, which were sold at an exhibition held by the Nordic countries the same day, but some are yet to be sold.

The proceedings from the exhibition will help the survivors starting their own sewing workshops to generate income and gain economic independence.
