Tabith Awal quizzed over suspicious bank dealings

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has given BNP executive committee member Tabith Awal seven working days to submit necessary documents of his wealth and bank accounts.

ACC yesterday quizzed Tabith for about five hours over allegations of suspicious transaction, money laundering and amassing wealth illegally.

He was quizzed by ACC Deputy Director SM Akhtar Hamid Bhuiyan. During the quizzing, Tabith said he would not be able to answers their questions without seeing the documents. He also sought time to produce necessary documents. The quizzing  continued till around 1:40pm.

Tabith, who denied to comment over the allegations, said, “An enquiry is ongoing. There is a legal barrier to make any comment… I don't think it would be appropriate to say anything right now.”

“But I'm hopeful that the truth will be revealed after a proper enquiry,” he said. “It's a ploy to distract BNP from Khaleda Zia's case. I hope our leader will be freed soon,” said Tabith.

Currently, the by-election to Dhaka North City Corporation, following the death of its previous mayor Annisul Huq, is currently pending until disposal of some High Court rules.

Tabith also ran for the mayor position of Dhaka North in the last city corporation elections.
