A Supreme Court lawyer yesterday filed a writ petition with the High Court seeking a stay on the Bangladesh Bar Council election scheduled to be held on May 14.

Advocate Eunus Ali Akond, on March 14, submitted the petition challenging the legality of the schedule announced by the council, the highest body for regulating the country's lawyers.

In the petition, he said there are anomalies in the existing voters' list of the council.

The petitioner also stated that some candidates are contesting the bar council election under white and blue panels, which is a violation of the constitution.

The HC may hear the petition next Sunday, said Eunus.
