Seven killed in road accidents

24 injured

At least seven persons, including two women were killed and 24 injured in separate road accidents across the country yesterday.

In Kishoreganj, auto-rickshaw driver Sanaullah Mia, 42; Masud Mia, 24; Sajib Mia, 35, and Monwar Hossain, 28, were killed and another injured after the auto-rickshaw collided head on with a truck on Bhairab-Kishoreganj road, police said.

The accident killed the CNG driver on spot while four others were injured.

The injured were taken to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex but as their condition deteriorated Masud Mia, Sajib Mia and Monwar Hossain died on the way to Dhaka.

In another incident in Mymesningh, seven passengers of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw, including two women and a child were injured when the Mymensingh bound three wheeler collided head on with a bus on Mymensingh-Sherpur road in Phulpur upazila, reports our correspondent.

The injured passengers were taken to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, police said, adding the vehicles have been seized. 

In Madaripur, Momtaj Begum, 65, was killed and two others were injured when a bus rammed an easy bike in Shivchar upazila, police said.

Momtaj was killed on the spot, while the injured were taken to a local hospital.

In Jhenidah, Monjura Khatun, 55, was killed was killed while she was crossing the Jhenidah-Jessore road at Raghunathpur bus stand area, reports our local correspondent.

In another incident, 15 passengers were injured on Kotchandpur-Kaliganj road in Kaliganj upazila when the bus lost control and fell into a roadside ditch.

Meanwhile in Bogra, Jewel Khan, 46, a bus workers' leader was killed on spot when a Dhaka-bound covered van ran him over on Dhaka-Bogra highway while he was crossing the road, police said quoting witnesses.

No further details could be known immediately.
