A Dhaka court yesterday cautioned Jatiya Party lawmaker AKM Salim Osman not to seek any further adjournment of hearing on charge framing in a case filed over the assault on Narayanganj school teacher Shyamal Kanti Bhakta.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Jesmin Ara Begum also set June 28 for the hearing on charge framing against Salim and another accused Mohammad Opu in the case.

Earlier, Salim's lawyer in a petition sought more time for the hearing since his client could not appear before the court due to various ailments including diabetes.

Additional Public Prosecutor Anwarul Kabir Babul opposed the prayer, saying that it was a sensational case and the defence was trying to delay the hearing by facilitating its client being absent for the last four consecutive dates set by the court.

In May 2016, a video clip of the headteacher of Piyar Sattar Latif High School in Narayanganj being humiliated, doing squats holding his ears, in the presence of Salim went viral on the social media.
