Road accidents kill 8

At least seven persons, including a Jubo League leader were killed in separate road accidents across the country yesterday.

In Rangpur, Mostafizar Rahman, 45, vice president of Dinajpur sadar upazila unit of Jubo League and Apel Uddin, 65, were killed when Mostafizar lost control of his car and hit Apel in Mithapukur upazila, police said adding, both were killed on the spot.

In Mymensingh, van puller Abdul Mannan, 65, was crushed to death under the wheels of a truck on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, reports our local correspondent.

Locals protested the incident by putting barricade on the road and restricting vehicular movement.

In another incident, a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver Sohel Mia, 30 died and three others injured when the three-wheeler collided head-on with a human hauler on Nandail-Tarail road in Nandail upazila, police said.

In Chapainawabganj, bicycle rider Nizamuddin, 30, was killed on spot when a sand laden tractor hit the bicycle at Kalingar area in the sadar upazila, reports our local correspondent.

Police recovered the body and sent it to a local hospital for autopsy.

In Natore, biker Mantaz Ali, 30, was killed on spot and Razu Ahmed injured when a truck hot the bike on Natore-Pabna highway, police said adding, locals took Razu to a nearby clinic.

In Brahmanbaria, Al Jaba, 29, died after being hit by a truck in Akhaura upazila on Comilla-Sylhet highway, reports our local correspondent quoting police. 

The body was sent to a local hospital for autopsy.

Meanwhile, in Dinajpur, Abdul Mojid, 55, died when a speeding truck rammed him after he lost control of his bicycle and fell on the road at Karimullahpur village in the sadar upazila, police said.

No further details could be known immediately.
