Rajshahi journo held after case filed by fellow
A Rajshahi journalist yesterday filed a case against a fellow alleging that the latter attempted to shoot him.
Kazi Shahed, president of Rajshahi Union of Journalists (RUJ), alleged that he had managed to survive the "attempt on his life" by speeding away on his motorbike.
Police arrested SM Abdul Kajim, 48, chief reporter of local daily Upachar after Shahed filed the case accusing Kajim and another unknown man with Boalia Police Station, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Amanullah.
Shahed told this correspondent that he was having a chat with a friend in front of a tea stall near Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce building in the city's Alakar More (intersection) early yesterday.
All on a sudden, Kajim with his associate showed up riding a motorbike and his associate pointed a firearm at him, alleged Shahed. As Shahed and his friend sped away on his motorbike, Kajim and his associate were chasing them riding on their motorbike, alleged Shahed.
“I did not know Kajim well. I also do not know why he tried to shoot me.”
However, Kajim told the police that Shahed filed the case brining false allegations against him as he protested Shahed's actions centring a training programme in a press conference around one month back, said the OC Amanullah.
Meanwhile, protesting the incident, local journalists held a human chain at Shaheb Bazar intersection at noon.
