He has been running from the law after he fled in 2014. He was caught again a few days back and ran away again yesterday -- this time right from the courtroom, with handcuffs on.

But his freedom lasted less than 12 hours as the law enforcers caught up with him in Saheb Bazar Zero Point area in the city.

Ibrahim Marshal, 34, a criminal convicted for anti-social activities on November 8 of 2017, was placed before a Rajshahi court yesterday by police for issuing of his jail warrant in the case. Police had just arrested the fugitive, from Beel Shimla area of the city, a few days back, on February 23, for peddling heroin.

Ibrahim was placed before the court of Metropolitan Magistrate Jahidul Islam around 11:00am and around 12:30pm, he snuck out of the dock and ran out of the courtroom while the on-duty policeman was shutting a door beside the dock, said Wali Ibne Hossain, the bench assistant of the court.

The police member tried in vain to chase him down as he had already disappeared in the crowd on the court premises, Wali added.

Police later tracked Ibrahim at Saheb Bazar Zero Point area and arrested him around 10:30pm without the handcuffs on. They were still looking for the missing handcuffs, said police.

On August 4 in 2014, Ibrahim was arrested for the first time for anti-social activities in a city hotel, according to police and court officials.

Few weeks later, Ibrahim was freed on bail and was absconding till February 23 this year.

Last year on November 8, a court sentenced him, in absentia, to one-month's imprisonment along with a fine of Tk 500 in the anti-social activities case, said court sources.

A new case was filed against Ibrahim following his arrest this month for drug peddling.
