Nabanna to be celebrated nationwide
The government is planning to observe Nabanna Utsab at the national level on Pahela Agrahayan (November 15) with an aim to promote and protect the country's heritage and culture.
A cultural affairs ministry official said they have already sent a proposal to the cabinet division. Around Tk 1 crore might be needed for its implementation.
The ministry will also celebrate Pahela Baishakh (Bangla New Year) at the national level for the first time on April 14.
The government staff get 20 percent festival bonus on the occasion. No such decision has been taken regarding Nabanna Utsab, he added.
In 2015, the ministry advised different district offices to celebrate Nabanna Utsab, involving eminent personalities, said the official. The festival is being observed at district and upazila levels, he added.
Meanwhile, the cultural affairs ministry has undertaken various programmes to celebrate the Bangla New Year, reports BSS.
The president will host a reception for eminent personalities, national award winners, writers, poets and litterateurs, said an official release yesterday.
The prime minister will issue a message. National dailies will publish special supplements. The day will be a public holiday.
Besides, cultural events, discussions and fairs would be organised throughout the country.
Improved diets would be served in jails, hospitals and orphanages.
To mark the day, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy will hold a three-day event. Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Bangla Academy and Sonargaon Loko O Karu Shilpa Foundation will organise traditional fairs. Museums would remain open for all without any entry fee.
Educational institutions and Bangladesh missions abroad will also observe the day.
